Hi, I'm Dee Lister (she/they). I am an OutsideIn mixed-race artist and trauma warrior who makes expressive art. I'm based in the North of England, UK.
My work blends text and images and is a stream-of-consciousness, 'somatic' approach that is playful, intuitive and hands on. I like to get my body involved and be fully present with the creative process.
My art is diverse and welcomes experimentation. This leaves space for me to play with meaningful experiences such as being in complex trauma recovery, valuing a deep nature-connection, and leaning into everyday 'mundane' moments that form part of a multi-layered, multisensory world.
I make and share art in ways that are emotive, often complex, sometimes humourous, ans always in deference to a fascination with learning and gaining new awareness. I also doodle A LOT.

In March 2024 I was awarded funding by OutsideIn and British Art Network to conduct creative research as part of the New Dialogues programme.
In the past I have explored culturally 'taboo' narratives during PhD research. Now as an artist not an academic, I am sensitively exploring and artfully responding to visual work created by people like me who live with/ lived with mental health issues and make art.
